British Airways unveil Terminal 5

Friday 18 January 2008 9:09 AM
The new Terminal 5 at London Heathrow will be used exclusively by British Airways. It has cost over £4 billion and the first flight will be on March 27th 2008.

Facilities for passengers have been taken to a high level with over 112 stores available for passengers to browse, a large number of restaurants, an exclusive first-class lounge and a view of Windsor Castle. The new Terminal also has a cinema to allow passengers to pass time while waiting for their flight.

The new Terminal should eleviate problems and delays that BA's passengers currently encounter at Heathrow. BA's commercial director said that the congestion at Heathrow is beginning to have a detrimental impact on the airline.

Heathrow currently serves a variety of airlines from business class only services to budget carriers to traditional airlines.

Heathrow has come under a lot of criticism in the last 12 months due to delays, problems with baggage handling, including lots of lost luggage, crowded terminals and long queues at airport security.

The new Terminal 5 will give British Airways passengers access to much better and advanced facilites. Queues at airport security will reduce dramatically and the extensive facilties in the departure lounges will make the whole experience much more pleasant.

Its expected that over 30 million passengers a year will be taken out of Heathrow's current terminals - giving the existing terminals much more and needed breathing space and reducing over crowding.
