BAA workers call OFF strike for January

Tuesday 1 January 2008 10:06 PM
In a move that will have travellers breathing a sigh of relief, BAA workers have called off their scheduled strikes/industrial action for January.

Workers at BAA's seven UK airports were scheduled to stop work for 24 and 48 hour periods later this month after a breakdown in talks over their pensions.

Last night, officials from the worker's union said that BAA had agreed to proper talks and consultation on their pensions - which included plans to axe final salary pensions for new staff.

A BAA spokesman said that an agreement had been reached in principle and if the deal is accepted as expected on Thursday, there will be no industrial action - and flights will continue without interruption.
