Thursday 3 January 2008 9:55 AM
Germany based Air Berlin have announced plans to start long haul flights to Shanghai and Beijing.

Starting in May 2008, the new services will operate from London Stansted to the two Asian cities via its hub at Dusseldorf Airport in Germany.

The announcement comes after chinese officials said that two new routes were an initial step to expand China-Germany flights with more direct flights later in 2008.

Air Berlin is Europe's third biggest low-cost carrier behind Ryanair and easyJet.

The airline also flights over 350 flights a day to more than 90 airports across Europe and over 20 million passengers a year.
