easyJet completes acquisition of GB Airways

Sunday 3 February 2008 8:27 PM
Back at the end of 2007, easyJet made the intention to purchase GB Airways subject to regulatory clearances. GB Airways is a British Airways franchise.

This regulatory clearance has now been given and the purchase by easyJet has now been completed.

easyjet's CEO said [quote] “We are delighted to have completed this transaction and we welcome the GB Airways staff transitioning across to become part of the easyJet team. The deal enhances easyJet’s customer offering of low cost with care and convenience and will create value for shareholders.”

With the additional routes and landing slots that GB Airways operated, easyJet now carries more passengers from Gatwick than any other airline, and it also means that easyJet will have a new base at Manchester Airport where GB Airways used to operate from.

The new purchase means that easyJet operates 18% of all available seats for short haul flights.
