Vueling to fly from Madrid to Canaries
Thursday 14 February 2008 9:58 AM
Vueling announce plans to fly three flights a day from Madrid to Tenerife North and Madrid to Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. With the six flights a day from Madrid to the Canaries, the airline expects to fly over 300,000 passengers on the route each year. To handle the additional requirements of these new routes from Madrid, the airline will stop operating some of its least used flights from Madrid - including to Nice, Pisa and Bologna. Juan Carlos Iglesias from Vueling said [quote] “Vueling’s operations into Tenerife and Gran Canaria are an important step in this company’s history. Both routes pull more than 1 million passengers per year each, but at the same time suffer from a very high level of demand which is not always met by the existing airlines. Capacity constraints, on the one hand, and high fares, on the other, have been one of the main bottlenecks in the development of the local tourism industry.” Vueling are expected to concentrate on fewer routes with more passengers - and hope to attract both business and leisure travellers.
