Friday 29 February 2008 8:04 AM
Europe's biggest low fare airline has announced its 27th European base will be in Edinburgh in Scotland.

From September, the airline (which has seen staggering growth in the last few years) will base two new aircraft at the airport and will serve over 19 routes across the UK and Europe.

Its expected that Ryanair will fly over 1.2 million people to and from the airport each year - helping to boost the local economy and sustain over 1000 jobs in the region.

From September when the new base will start, Ryanair will then provide routes from Edinburgh to the following European destinations.

Lodz, Malada, Marseille, Palma, Pisa, Poznan, Shannon, Stockholm, Wroclaw, Krakow, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Dublin, Bratislava, Bremen, Bournemouth, Billund, Berlin and Alicante.

Ryanair's spokesman Sean Coyle said [quote] "Edinburgh Airport has competed successfully against airports across Europe for Ryanair’s 27th base. Our 19 routes will deliver significant economic benefits for Edinburgh by capitalising on Scotland’s huge tourism potential and making it cheaper and easier than ever before to get here. Ryanair already connects Scotland to more international destinations than any other airline and we look forward to delivering savings of over £20m for Edinburgh’s passengers compared to the high fares charged by Easyjet and BA".

Irish airline Ryanair is Europe's biggest budget airline providing over 600 routes across Europe.
