Paphos Airport has positive start

Cyprus’ new International Airport in Paphos began facilitating flights this week and encountered no operational problems.

The airport’s operating company Hermes carried out a number of tests before the full opening on November 17th. These tests were designed to ensure that there would be no operational issues.

Adam Aspris, a Hermes spokesman, said that the pre-launch tests were successful and the first full day of operations passed without incident.

"We are very pleased about the first day of operation and all the procedures ran smoothly," Mr Aspris said.

"There were no major problems, and the passengers seemed pleased with the level and quality of service they received."

Paphos airport’s first arrival was a Finnair service from Helsinki, while the first departure was a Cyprus Airways flight to Heathrow Airport.

14 flights landed and as many departed from the new Paphos Airport during the first day. During the first 12 months of operations, Paphos airport could handle up to 2.7 million passengers.
