More airlines to put flat beds into planes

Thursday 13 December 2007 1:07 PM
Business-class only airlines such as Silverjet have flat beds throughout their planes. Airlines such as British Airways have flat beds in certain classes (none in economy) but more carriers are installing seats capable of being turned into flat beds.

The trend of wanting more comfort when flying is becoming more in-demand, including at the bottom end of the market in economy.

Premium Seats are being introduced by many of the bigger airlines including Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines.

To cater for passengers for which money is no object, Singapore Airlines have introduced "suites" for its First Class customers on their new Airbus A380 superjumbo planes.

These luxury suites include a fully flat double bed, large screen television, wardrobe and are almost entirely enclosed - providing passengers with a high level of privacy.

The exclusive level of luxury comes at a significant premium with tickets over £5000 for long-haul flights from London to Sydney.

Singapore Airline's first A380 super jumbo starts operating during the first three months of 2008 on their London to Singapore service.
