Lisbon hugely popular with tourists

Monday 30 August 2010 8:31 PM
Lisbon has come out first in a ranking of the most popular 20 cities among tourists. The Big Apple, New York,  came in at 17th place, pointing to the fact that tourists are no longer interested in shopping and theme park holidays. Tourists surveyed pointed out that Portugal was an undiscovered country.

Tourists rated cities according to their value for money, and New York, with the unpopular border checks and longer flight time, caused it to drop in the rankings. Lisbon, just a short two hour flight from England, scored high in the value for money terms, in addition to its festivals, vibrant museums and a multitude of galleries.

Cities such as Paris and New York, would always be popular destinations with tourists, however increasingly European locations are becoming more popular in the tougher economic climate. Also, those people with long working hours prefer a quick trip to their destination as opposed to the longer flying time of US destinations. Also, with European locations available from Manchester Airport as well as London airports, this only adds to the popularity.
