Saturday 8 August 2009 9:18 AM

Flybe this week kicked off a month-long onboard charity collection which will run throughout the month of July.

The regional airline will be inviting donations on flights to destinations ranging from Inverness in northern Scotland to Malaga in southern Spain as part of its partnership with Cancer Research UK.

Contributions for the good cause will be encouraged on12,000 flights across the Flybe network during July.

The airline's chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter, commented: "Cancer is a disease that touches almost all of us and Flybe is proud to be working with Cancer Research UK in a long-term fundraising partnership.

When questioned further about the collection he added: "Taking onboard collections for a whole month is a huge logistical undertaking with our staff working together as a really tight team to make a potentially complex feat work in reality over a 30-day continuous period."

Tim Rowlands of Cancer Research UK described the inflight collections as "a great opportunity to raise a huge amount of money to help beat cancer".
