A record July for Birmingham Airport

Thursday 21 August 2008 4:02 PM

Record numbers of passengers travelled through Birmingham airport in July. Figures show that 1,036,135 people used the airport in July, making it the first month the airport has seen over a million passengers.

Acting managing director of Birmingham airport Joe Kelly commented: "It is another record breaking month for the airport. Additionally, our rolling 12 month record of over 9.5 million passengers is definitely something to shout about."

Birmingham airport will be expecting further passenger increases in the coming months as a result of deals with Turkish Airlines and Ryanair to provide new routes, Mr Kelly commented.

"We are delighted that Turkish Airlines has announced a new service to Istanbul starting in December, and with Ryanair adding an extra ten routes from October it should be a busy second half of the year as well," he added.

The new Turkish Airlines initiative will be the first to provide direct flights from the West Midlands to Turkey.
