Ryanair makes web check in free but airport check in costs 3 pounds

Wednesday 29 August 2007 3:09 PM
The term "no frills" is often used to describe how airlines offer a basic flight, and nothing much else.

Ryanair have announced that from 20th September 2007 onwards, if you decided to check-in at the airport will you be charged £2 or £3.

Online check-in used to incur a small cost, but that cost has now been removed with Ryanair pushing people to do it all online.

All well and good, but passengers with baggage must still check-in at the airport using the airport check-in desks, so the online check-in will not be a possibility.

As a large proportion of people travelling will be taking luggage - and consequently needing to check-in at the airport, the extra £2-3 will be charged. Its effectively an additional charge making the overall cost of a flight more expensive and more than the low advertised price.

Passenger groups have criticised the move by Ryanair and called it "extraordinary" especially as there are numerous charges in place, including checking in baggage.

Flying Abroad predict that other airlines will follow suit in the near future.
