New base in Northern Ireland for Aer Lingus

New routes will include Belfast to Heathrow, Amsterdam, Rome, Budapest, Barcelona, Geneva, Faro and Malaga.

Aer Lingus have historically run the Shannon to Heathrow route and the opening of the Belfast operation means that the slot will move to Belfast - and the Shannon service closed.

Over 5 million people use Belfast Airport and the addition of Aer Lingus flying from the airport will most likely increase numbers by 800,000 or more a year.
