Cheap flights are crucial to sustain tourism in Southern Italy

Friday 24 August 2007 2:42 PM
Ryanair's recent announcement to commence flights from London Stanstead to Lamezia in Switzerland has been greatly welcomed by tourist bodies in Italy.

Historically, only conventional airlines such as Alitalia have been available with costs of £300 or more for a return flight from UK to Italy.

Ryanair's prices can be as low as £60 return out of season which makes the Italian destinations much more affordable for UK travellers.

Tourism bodies in Italy are hoping that more airlines and routes start flying to the Southern Italian airports as it could lead to a repeat of the increased tourism that Spain has experienced with cheap flight airlines opening up tourist destinations all across Spain.
