Bmibaby celebrates seven years at East Midlands Airport

Saturday 18 April 2009 8:02 AM
bmibaby is celebrating seven years of operations at East Midlands Airport this week.

The airline launched a new service from East Midlands Airport to Almeria in Spain to mark the occasion. Bmibaby anticipates that some 28,000 passengers will use the route during the summer schedule.

Bmibaby has served more than 8.7 million passengers at East Midlands Airport since it began operations there in March 2002.

Initially, the bmi subsidiary offered one route - to Malaga - but has since expanded its operations to offer connections to European destinations including Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva and Faro.

Bmibaby's managing director, Crawford Rix, said: "We are very proud of what bmibaby has achieved in seven years of flying from East Midlands Airport.

"We have established ourselves as the Midlands' largest low-cost carrier and have continued to add exciting new routes from the region. This year we start flying to Almeria and Menorca, which are currently not served from the airport."

In other news, Bmibaby recently announced increases in its flight operations from Birmingham International Airport to Alicante, Malaga, Murcia and Faro this summer.
