Iceland Express to start flights from Gatwick

Tuesday 15 April 2008 8:22 PM
From this winter, Iceland Express will start to offer regular flights from London's Gatwick Airport and Iceland - as well as its existing service from London's Stansted to Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik.

Starting on September 16th, the new service from Gatwick will fly to Reykjavik five times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. It will leave Gatwick at 21:00 and arrive in Iceland at 23:00 (local times).

For the return flights, it will leave Iceland at 16:00 and arrive back in Gatwick at 20:00 (local times).

Iceland Express's marketing manager, Birna Gumundsdóttir said [quote] "We have wanted to expand into Gatwick for some time and the decision by British Airways to suspend its services to Reykjavik earlier this year means that the time is now right to do so".

Iceland is experiencing a growing tourism industry and is being opened up to european and northern american destinations by airlines such as Iceland Express and Icelandair.
