Mini-Guide To Grenoble

Situated in the south-east of France and at the foot of the Alps, Grenoble is surrounded by mountains. Mountain sports are an important part of Grenoble's culture with many tourists visiting over the winter period to take advantage of the snow covered slopes.

Grenoble can be reached by flying to the local airport, or even by flying into Geneva airport and travelling the short distance to Grenoble by car.

Local Airports In Grenoble

One of the main tourist attractions in Grenoble is La Bastille - a series of ancient fortifications on the hillside overlooking the city. They can be reached by cable-car (called Les Bulles) and provide an excellent view of the city on the ascent and descent. Ticket prices for Les Bulles cost €5.95.

There is a natural history museum in the city which is open all year around (except 25th December, 1st January and 1st May). It has an acquarium, mineral collections and exhibitions on wild life in the Alps.

Grenoble offers a good number of restaurants varying from cheap to expensive. French cuisine is obviously common, as too is Italian and Asian food.

Grenoble itself has a good tram and bus system which serves the whole city. If you travel to the city by car - we'd advise you stay away from the centre as its often grid-locked and traffic jams can often tail-back for miles.

If you are visiting the city in July, you will often see the Tour de France passing through as the riders are tested on the "mountain" stretch of the Tour.
